Donation from Seaford Rotary
On Wednesday 13th August we received a donation of £1000 from Seaford Rotary at their weekly Club meeting.
Julia talked about changes that had happened since TYCP was formed in 2017
After Covid there was a change in the problems being presented with the anxieties of youngsters being fuelled by social media with the need to be the best, the most good looking and the most popular. Children as young as six began to express concerns about war (especially concerning Ukraine), climate change, financial worries, family break ups and conflict within step families. Also gender identity was rearing its head and boys were finding it difficult in relating to girls.
The NHS service CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) has a very long waiting list and for this reason TYCP is having to take on more complex cases, meaning that some cases will need more than 10 sessions – one young person has just finished their counselling after a full year! There is no point in scratching the surface of a problem then saying we have to stop, ‘your 10 session allowance is up’. We have to continue, or sometimes pass on to a different type of counselling. This is the reason why at the end of this academic year we have seen fewer children (83) than last year, but there have been more sessions (1000).
Julia thanked Seaford Rotary very much for the £1000 donation and said that it will make a difference.
